Yorgos Tzirtzilakis is Associate Professor of Architecture at the University of Thessaly, Greece and the artistic advisor to the DESTE Foundation for Contemporary Art. He is a theorist and a curator on art and architecture whose work focuses on the intersections between architecture and the visual arts, as well as the relationships between artistic practices, territoriality and psychoanalytic assumptions. He has contributed to Postclassicisms: Liquid Antiquity project (DESTE Foundation, Benaki Museum). Among others, he published the book Sub-modernity and the Labor of Joy-Making Mourning: The Crisis Effect in Contemporary Greek Culture (Kastaniotis Editions, Athens). He recently co-curated the exhibitions “Ametria” (DESTE Foundation, Benaki Museum), “Hypnos Project” (Onassis Cultural Centre, Athens) and “George Lappas: Happy Birthday” (DESTE Foundation, Benaki Museum).
Currently he is preparing the second volume of a book project under the general title of Sub-modernity focusing on the “dismeasured impulse” as a third term which transcends the opposition between tradition and modernity and the complex relationships between antiquity and contemporaneity.
